Description

A commission for *Leundra.

This colour blue and I have problems with one another but I think she turned out nicely in the end! I loved painting her crest of feathers.

And just as a random tidbit, here's a detail shot of the crest that I used as a preview image in my livejournal. Crest!

Tools: Photoshop, Wacom Intuos 3 Tablet
Time: 21 hours
Music: Piano Man - Billy Joel seemed to be the predominant theme.

First of all: I am stunned!
This is not only an artwork demonstrating your excellent painting technique, it also holds enough epic impact to tell any beholder its story.

It has an amazing atmosphere! Your way of combining sunset colors, rays of light, warmth, a fluent composition, fitting scale and good perspective creates a calm and inviting, even solemn mood. This feeling of lenity is supported by the soft lines you used in the barks and leaves of the trees and even in the rather absent texture of the rocks on the ground. A perfect example that even heavy and rough objects can appear cushy.
Leundra walking calmly and contented through the grass is inviting and it makes me want to join her on her promenade. Her posture speaks of strength and esteem with her wings and tail raised. Good work on her anatomy as well.
Elements like the white birds flying into the the sunset have a wonderful narrative character and depict a sense of freedom. I also like the details vey much, like Leundra's slightly transparent wings as well as the subtile textures, the leaves, the flowers and the feathers.
However there are a few things to criticize: I would have expected Leundra to cast a slightly deeper shadow. I can imagine more blue and purple values in the foreground shadows. Another point I want to indicate is that I cannot find a clear horizon. It seems as if it might be the seaboard underneath the setting sun, however, in such a case it is usually supposable to see a stronger contrats between the water surface and the sky just above the water. I have to admit it confuses me a bit.

To sum it up: in my opinion you have created an inspiring artwork at a high quality level. There are just a few minimal inconsistencies you just become aware of if you take closer looks. The overall impression does not suffer much from them.

I like it very much. Your work is a feast for the eyes! Congrats! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" title=":) (Smile)" />
